November is designated as National Military Family Appreciation Month. It is when the country honors military families, acknowledging the sacrifices they make while supporting their servicemen and women.

During Military Family Appreciation Month, we thank the military families local to our community and across the world for the tremendous contribution they make in support of our service members, the military mission and the nation. Military life imposes unique demands on them, and during these difficult times, they have exhibited exceptional sacrifice, resiliency and courage.

At One Place we are proud to be part of a military community and provide services and support to local military children and their families. As part of Military Family Appreciation Month we’ve collected all of our blogs with military content in one place for easy access. Check them out for some great information and resources specific to military families.

A Guide to Parenting During Deployment

Every family deals with deployment differently—and every child will have a different reaction to a parent’s distance. Whether you’re preparing for your first deployment or you’ve been through one before, there are a number of ways you can prepare your family and your children. Read more in our blog:

How Deployment Impacts the Mental Health of Military Children and Families

More than two million American children have had a parent deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan –  and with those deployments can come mental health challenges for the military family as a whole. If you are seeking resources and support for your family, we’re here to help. Read more about the impact of deployment on military families here:

Month of the Military Child: Serving Military Families at One Place

More than 140,000 active duty and military family members reside in this community at any given time. While April is designated as Month of the Military Child, in Onslow County, we celebrate military children (and their families) every day. Read our post for some firsthand accounts of how One Place supports military families in Onslow County:

Community Partners: Military Leads by Example in Fight Against Child Abuse

Strong community partnerships are essential to ensure all children and families in our community are supported – especially when it comes to the work of the One Place Child Advocacy Center. Collaboration with local military agencies is key to ensuring victims of child abuse receive necessary services from qualified providers in a way that is least traumatizing to the child.

ACEs and the Military Child

Early experiences have long-term impacts on the health and well-being of children—and for military children who face a unique set of challenges, the odds of having an adverse childhood experience (ACE) can be higher. Luckily, there are many ways to support your child and decrease their risk of an adverse childhood experience. To find out more, read our post:

Resilience Among Military Children

April is the month of the military child. We checked in with a few One Place staff members who shared their thoughts on being military children – and raising them. The takeaway? Resilience.

“New teachers, friends, places, dreams, homes – often. Change that was good, and change that could have broken me, but that was my catalyst to become resilient” said Stefanie Hunter, deputy director of Early Head Start at One Place and former military child. Read more about the resilience of military children in our blog:

Military Child School Transition

A new school year is just around the corner. If you’re a military family new to the community that means not only the start of the new school year but also an entirely new school.

If you’re wondering how to help your child transition to a new school setting read more in today’s post:

Community Partners: Collaboration with Military Hospital Critical in Fight Against Child Abuse

They say it takes a village to raise a child. It takes a community to respond to and prevent child abuse and neglect. Without the collaboration with our military partners, the One Place Child Advocacy Center could not adequately serve and support area military families. We are so grateful. Check out this post for more information on our collaboration with Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune:

Blue Star Welcome Week

More than 70% of American #MilitaryFamilies live off base in their local civilian communities. However, many don’t feel a strong sense of belonging to those communities. Let’s change this by being the neighbors our military and Veteran families can count on! Welcome new military families into your community right now and share your appreciation for their service and sacrifices during this year’s #BlueStarWelcomeWeek
